We are seeking an experienced Business Development Manager (BDM) to manage qualified opportunities generated by our SDR team, leading prospects through trials, proposals, and commercial conversions. This role is central to helping our customers achieve energy savings and decarbonisation goals across multiple sites and sectors.
Role Overview
The BDM will own the sales relationship from initial SDR handover through to post-trial upsell and contract renewal, combining consultative sales skills with strong technical and commercial awareness.
The sales journey includes five key phases:

Role Overview

- Initial Call - Delivered by SDR / Handover to BDM (AS)
- Site Survey & Trial Proposal Build
- Trial Sale & Onboarding
- Post-Trial Follow-Up & Expansion Sale
- Ongoing Upsell & Contract Renewal
- Review lead details and engagement data from the SDR (CRM notes, LinkedIn/email history, ICP tags).
- Conduct an introductory discovery call to understand customer pain points, site type, and objectives.
- Qualify opportunity and schedule a technical survey or remote scoping session.
- Ensure CRM data is complete and accurate for each prospect.
- Coordinate or attend site surveys (virtual or physical) with Energenie engineers or installers.
- Gather data on heating systems, controls, occupancy patterns, and energy use.
- Build proposals for trial installations, including hardware requirements, estimated savings, ROI, and project plan.
- Present findings and recommendations to customer stakeholders.
- Upload all documentation to Zoho CRM and ensure internal approval prior to submission.
- Lead the commercial close for the trial phase, including pricing, scope, and contractual terms.
- Liaise with Operations to confirm delivery timelines and installation requirements.
- Manage customer communication throughout the installation and commissioning process.
- Ensure successful dashboard setup and customer handover for trial monitoring.
- Capture feedback and performance data during the trial period.
- Conduct post-trial review with customer stakeholders to assess performance data and satisfaction.
- Quantify savings, comfort improvements, and ROI achieved.
- Prepare and present commercial proposals for full-site rollout or multi-site expansion.
- Negotiate and close further sales, coordinating internal resources as required.
- Maintain regular contact with key customer accounts.
- Identify opportunities for additional Energenie solutions (e.g., advanced analytics, additional sites, or complementary sensors).
- Review contract renewals and ensure continuity of service agreements.
- Support case study creation and internal business reviews to showcase customer success.
- Number and value of trials converted to full sales.
- Lead-to-sale conversion rate from SDR-qualified opportunities.
- Average deal size and sales cycle duration.
- Customer retention and renewal rate.
- Accuracy and timeliness of CRM updates.
- Customer satisfaction and post-installation feedback.
- Proven B2B sales experience, ideally within energy efficiency, building technology, or SaaS/IoT sectors.
- Strong consultative selling and presentation skills.
- Technical understanding of building energy systems and retrofit solutions.
- Experience managing multiple complex sales opportunities.
- Experience specifying commercial and domestic heating systems and consumer units.
- Commercial awareness and ability to build ROI-driven proposals.
- Confident in using Zoho CRM, Google Workspace, and presentation tools.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Self-motivated, organised, and comfortable working remotely and autonomously.
- Full UK Driving Licence required due to regional travel for customer site visits.
- Successful applicants must pass a DBS (Disclosure and Barring Service) check prior to employment.
