National Head of Department, Estates and Farm Agency

London | Permanent | Full-Time | Hybrid 
Bonus/commission: £30,000-£50,000 realistic OTE

Our Estates and Farm Agency Department comprises a network of experienced agents who provide professional advice to private clients, trustees, executors, as well as corporate and charitable organisations on the valuation, sale, and acquisition of farms, country estates, sporting estates, and high-value rural properties. This work typically includes assets with residential, commercial, and strategic elements.

The Department is divided into seven regions, with the National team involved in all transactions over £5m, while also working very closely with the Country House Department.

The position is based in London, but will require regular client and site visits across England, as well as regional office visits and some remote working.
The Role

As National Head of Department, you will lead the Estates & Farm Agency National team and act as a key contributor to the overall management of the business line. You will be responsible for driving strategic initiatives, overseeing client service delivery, profitability, and people management, while also representing the brand internally and externally as a recognised expert in the sector.

Key responsibilities include:
Strategy
  • Contribute to the wider business line strategy and implement it at departmental level.
  • Set and deliver departmental objectives, ensuring alignment with wider business goals.
Clients & Service Delivery
  • Oversee the delivery of outstanding client service and act as a senior escalation point.
  • Ensure close collaboration with Regional Residential, Land Management, and Estates & Farm Agency teams.
  • Play a visible role in high-profile business development opportunities nationally.
  • Ensure compliance with internal processes, RICS, AML, and other regulatory frameworks.
  • Manage departmental data effectively in line with best practice and compliance.
Financial Performance
  • Take accountability for departmental P&L, forecasting, and profitability.
  • Drive initiatives to increase revenue, with team billing targets growing from £800k to £1m+.
  • Monitor and deliver against KPIs and performance objectives.
People
  • Lead, motivate, and develop the National team, with responsibility for annual people processes.
  • Support and coach regional heads to drive performance and embed best practice.
  • Build a strong internal and external network to support recruitment and succession planning.
  • Actively contribute to career development, promotions, and training initiatives.
Brand & Representation
  • Represent the Estates & Farm Agency department externally as a senior market expert.
  • Enhance visibility through events, networking, and high-profile business development.
  • Work collaboratively across the wider Residential business and other service lines to encourage cross-selling and interdepartmental working.
Process & Systems
  • Deliver consistent, high-quality service through effective processes and systems.
  • Drive innovation and manage change to improve quality and profitability.
  • Maintain compliance, oversight, and effective risk management.
Person Specification
Essential Qualifications
  • Degree educated.
  • MRICS qualified.
Essential Experience
  • Demonstrable experience in the agricultural or estates property market.
  • Proven ability to build and maintain long-term business relationships.
  • Evidence of cross-selling success across complementary business lines.

Package & Benefits
  • Basic salary: £70,000-£80,000
  • Car allowance: £7,500
  • Bonus/commission: £30,000-£50,000 realistic OTE
