How to stay productive in School Holidays

How to stay productive in School Holidays – Many parents now take equal ownership for childcare, especially during school holidays.  Annual leave tends to be split between parents to cover school holidays.  Flexible working has played a big part in helping parents juggle a busy and successful career and fulfil childcare.

However, how hard is it really in the school holidays, with constant whines of ‘I’m Bored’, ‘I’m Hungry’ whilst your business phone doesn’t stop ringing?

It is all about a guilt free work life balance.  Here’s some tips to help.

  1. Get up earlier than the children.  Perhaps have some power hours between 6am and 8am.  You will feel better about taking a few hours out of the day if you have fulfilled urgent items.
  2. Everywhere has WiFi now.  If your children do not need constant supervision, then set them loose and catch up on emails.
  3. Most people get that school holidays are a struggle.  If you get that all important phone call and kids are playing up, just be honest and politely explain it’s holiday time and schedule a time to call back when you know you can give the caller your full attention.
  4. Set up an out of office email response.  This will ensure you can cherry pick the urgent emails from the non-urgent.
  5. Schedule your social media posts and blogs way in advance with programs such as Hootsuite and WordPress.
  6. Check out some childcare/activity clubs that could help you out for a few days a week.
  7. Make a diary and ensure that you have at least 2 days a week that you aren’t working so you can spend time with your children.

There are no rules, do what is right for you and see if you can find some balance to fulfil your work commitments and enjoy some down time with your children.
