GETTING READY FOR THAT CRUCIAL SECOND INTERVIEW
Well, you’ve cleared the first hurdle of the initial interview and now you need to prepare to seal the deal at your second interview – with our hints and tips. Getting ready for that crucial second interview:
This is the real test – your first interview may just have been a box-ticking formality, checking the accuracy of your CV and sounding out your potential as a candidate ready to progress to the second stage. So a callback is your chance to shine. Think about your first interview and honestly review your performance – now is your opportunity to iron out any wrinkles in your presentation and stake your claim to the job.
FAILURE TO PLAN IS PLANNING TO FAIL:
It’s a cliché because it’s true! Forget about that first encounter and go back to the drawing board – you may well face a completely different interviewer at another location so double-check the details.
Make sure you’ve got the logistics right and don’t let traffic or public transport put you off track. Maybe you need a practice run just to be sure?
Dress to impress – plan your outfit and make sure it’s laundered and lint free. Set up a substitute just in case of a spill. Make sure you maintain a professional image and ensure your appearance is acceptable for the job you’re working so hard to win. It’s all about being appropriate.
Do your homework. If you can, find out who is going to interview you and learn a little more about them using a professional networking site like LinkedIn. Get the skinny on their skills and make sure your knowledge of their chosen fields is up to speed. If you can find a mutual interest, you’re well on the way to making a good impression.
As well as the chance for any employer to find out more about you, the second interview is your opportunity to make sure this really is the job of your dreams. Prepare a selection of questions and practice so you remember them.
Knowledge is power for both parties, so don’t be afraid to probe deeper and dig out the details.
