First Day Nerves

First Day Nerves

You’ve got through the anxiety of preparing for your interview.  You’ve nailed the interview.  You’ve been offered the job.  You’ve accepted and have a start date!

Now what?

You have probably got doubt now about the first day in your new job, sweaty palms and legs feeling shaky. The anxiety, the weirdness of being in a new environment, new people to meet and unfamiliar routines. The last thing you want to do on your first day is come across negative because you are anxious.  Here’s a few tips to help you with the first day jitters.

  • Remember they hired YOU!  They identified that YOU were the perfect person for the job and to help them grow their business.  They want YOU and have faith in YOU!
  • Think of a plan.  What are your goals for the first 3 to 6 months in your new job.  Having a strategy will help you combat that feeling of ‘not knowing where to start’ and put you in control.
  • Think back to your past achievements.  Would you have had the right skill set and experience for your new job, without some past successes?  YOU have earned this!
  • Lastly, remember, everybody has firsts… first day at school or college, a first date.  Everyone has been a newbie at some point.  It won’t be long until you have settled in and hopefully make some wonderful friends and build some great relationships.
