Are You Engaging the Right Recruitment Candidate?

As professionals operating within the recruitment industry we know what makes a good candidate for our clients. But how much do recruiters know about hiring staff for themselves? Hiring the right people is one of the biggest challenges the recruitment industry faces.

Ideal Character Profile

As a member of the recruitment team, it is important to have certain characteristics. You can train someone to be a good recruiter but you cannot change someone’s personality traits. Whilst a gut feeling can be good in many situations it can lead to people ignoring bad traits if the candidate is likeable.
Resilient: The candidate needs to be able to bounce back and recover from difficult situations quickly.
Persistent: To be able to take a task from start to finish despite opposition or difficulty.
Self-motivated: Be able to successfully continue or undertake a task without supervision or constant prodding.
Goal Orientated: Goal orientation is in reference to a person’s focus on tasks and the end results of those tasks. Strong goal orientation advocates a focus on the ends that the tasks are made for instead of the tasks themselves and how those ends will affect either the person or the entire company.

Example interview questions

Below are some interview questions that can help uncover the candidate’s true traits.
Tell me about a time where you achieved exceptional results?
(Past performance is a good indicator of future success)
Can you tell me about a time when you overcame a major challenge and how did you deal with it?
(A good indicator of resilience, persistence and/or thinking on your feet)
How do you react to being told no?
(Some people don’t handle this word very well and in this line of business it’s an important word to handle and overcome)
Describe yourself.
(In the recruitment industry, it is important to be able to sell yourself)
psychometric testing
Using these tests in the interview process are a great way of testing candidate’s skills, knowledge and personality. They are also unbiased and will give a clearer result of how the interviewee will do in a recruitment role.
